Your Special Day

I just have to make note of a little thing the boys did this morning. It was far too sweet.

It was early, still dark in fact, and raining heavily for the what? 4th, 5th day in a row? I don't know, it's been raining a lot, for what feels like forever. Will had left for work already and I'd given the boys breakfast and crawled back into bed, not quite ready to face the another freezing, wet day. The kids were playing quietly on the lounge. Dex came to me with a piece of paper and a texta and asked me to write down in a 'meaty-um' (medium) size font the words Your Special Day.

He ran out. Much whispering and moving about in the living room. I heard scissors snip snipping, Dexter giving Hugo instruction on what they had to do...for this special day he had in mind. The piano lid was opened and closed a few times - more whispering. Hugo's little feet going up the spiral stairs outside our bedroom. Dex saying 'Yes, just there Hoogs, that's purrrr-fic.'

Dexter then came to me and said Mum - when you hear this noise, wee-ooh-wit (his version of a whistle - it's a squeal-like 3 note singsongy thing he does), you can get up, o.k? Dexter went out to the living area, whispered to Hugo - are you ready Hoogs? A few moments, them wee-ooh-wit! My signal! I walked slowly out of my bedroom, Dex said to Hugo - Now! Hugo poured a container of 'snowflakes' (cut up paper) all over me from his position up the stairs and immediately raced down, pushed past me in the hallway grinning like a mad thing to stand beside his brother as I entered the living area.

There, they stood smiling at me, eagerly gauging my response, by the piano. Where they had stuck the sign Your Special Day, strung a little star bunting by enclosing it's ends inside the piano lid and positioned Buzz Lightyear with his arms outstretched in greeting. After a pause Dexter, hopping excitedly from foot to foot, said - Surprise! It's Your Special Day mum! Did you like the snow? What would you like to do today? Shall we go for coffee?

  2. Well of course we went out for coffee. Then we had the jb crowd over here for a cosy rainy day gathering which included far too many home baked goodies and me teaching some little ones the art of embroidery. So it was pretty special actually!
